Hadwiger's conjecture for quasi-line graphs

چکیده
A graph G is a quasi-line graph if for every vertex v ∈ V (G), the set of neighbors of v in G can be expressed as the union of two cliques. The class of quasi-line graphs is a proper superset of the class of line graphs. Hadwiger’s conjecture states that if a graph G is not t-colorable then it contains Kt+1 as a minor. This conjecture has been proved for line graphs by Reed and Seymour [10]. We extend their result to all quasi-line graphs.

Hadwiger's conjecture for line graphs
We prove that Hadwiger’s conjecture holds for line graphs. Equivalently, we show that for every loopless graph G (possibly with parallel edges) and every integer k ≥ 0, either G is k-edge-colourable, or there are k + 1 connected subgraphs A1, ..., Ak+1 of G, each with at least one edge, such that E(Ai ∩ Aj) = ∅ and V (Ai ∩ Aj) 6= ∅ for 1 ≤ i < j ≤ k.
متن کاملHadwiger's Conjecture for the Complements of Kneser Graphs
A graph H is a minor of a graph G if a graph isomorphic to H can be obtained from a subgraph of G by contracting edges. An H-minor is a minor isomorphic to H. The Hadwiger number of G, denoted by h(G), is the maximum integer t such that G contains a Kt-minor, where Kt is the complete graph with t vertices. Hadwiger [8] conjectured that every graph that is not (t−1)-colourable contains a Kt-mino...
متن کامل-λ coloring of graphs and Conjecture Δ ^ 2
For a given graph G, the square of G, denoted by G2, is a graph with the vertex set V(G) such that two vertices are adjacent if and only if the distance of these vertices in G is at most two. A graph G is called squared if there exists some graph H such that G= H2. A function f:V(G) {0,1,2…, k} is called a coloring of G if for every pair of vertices x,yV(G) with d(x,y)=1 we have |f(x)-f(y)|2 an...
متن کاملAn approximate version of Hadwiger's conjecture for claw-free graphs
Hadwiger’s conjecture states that every graph with chromatic number χ has a clique minor of size χ. In this paper we prove a weakened version of this conjecture for the class of claw-free graphs (graphs that do not have a vertex with three pairwise nonadjacent neighbors). Our main result is that a claw-free graph with chromatic number χ has a clique minor of size ⌈23χ⌉.
متن کاملCircular Ones Matrices and the Stable Set Polytope of Quasi-Line Graphs
It is a long standing open problem to find an explicit description of the stable set polytope of clawfree graphs. Yet more than 20 years after the discovery of a polynomial algorithm for the maximum stable set problem for claw-free graphs, there is even no conjecture at hand today. Such a conjecture exists for the class of quasi-line graphs. This class of graphs is a proper superclass of line g...
